~ Exploring Local Ecosystems Through Art ~
On June 2, 2024 in Yokohama, we held an “Art from Kuzu (Kudzu)” lecture and workshop, exploring the intersection of ecosystems and art.
〜身近な生態系を知りアートとして楽しもう〜
2024年6月2日に横浜にて、生態系ｘアート「葛（くず）からアート」レクチャーとワークショップを開催しました。
The lecture introduced the Kudzu plant and explained its survival strategies. Following this, participants created mobiles using Kuzu vines.
From preschoolers to adults, everyone crafted mobiles based on their own unique ideas, and the event concluded with short presentations by each participant. The resulting works were full of creativity—leveraging the natural curls of the vines and the beauty of interconnected lines and shapes. It was a wonderful time enjoying both nature’s forms and the rhythmic movement unique to mobiles.
While Kudzu is highly valued as a medicinal and edible plant, it is often dismissed as an unwanted weed in the landscape. Our goal was to provide an opportunity for people to become more familiar with this plant, encouraging them to rethink the value of their local nature and consider the delicate balance of things.
レクチャーでは葛という植物を紹介するとともに、植物の生存戦略などを解説。その後、葛のつるを使ったモビール作りを行いました。
未就学児から大人まで、それぞれの発想と観察眼でモビールを制作し、最後に参加者がそれぞれ簡単発表も行いました。くるくると巻き付く葛の形を生かした発想や、線や形のつながりの面白さが詰まった作品が生まれ、自然の形と、モビールならではの動きを楽しみました。
薬や食品として重宝されるかたわら、景観のなかでは雑草として疎まれがちな葛を身近に知ってもらうことで、身近な自然や価値について、また物事のバランスを考える良いきっかけになるよう企画しました。
