We held a special workshop featuring Kuzu (Japanese Arrowroot) at this year’s Iroenpitsu Summer School. It was a day packed with excitement, including a collage workshop with artist Hiroaki Nakatsugawa and refreshing water play!
葛（くず）をつかうワークショップを、色えんぴつサマースクールで実施しました。他にも、アーティスト中津川浩章さんのちぎり絵ワークショップや水遊びなど、盛りだくさんの楽しい1日でした。
To kick off the workshop, we wanted to introduce the Kuzu plant in a way that would be fun for even the youngest children. We presented a short animation followed by a playful dialogue performance. Afterwards, the participants dove into the “Hoshi-Kuzu” (Stardust) theme, creating unique mobiles by combining shimmering materials with natural Kuzu vines.
After the lunch break, the hall transformed into the “Hoshi-Kuzu Disco,” where everyone danced along to beats spun by a DJ. To wrap up the day, we had a relaxing “cool-down” session: everyone lay down on the floor to gaze up at the hanging Kuzu mobiles. Under the indoor lights, the reflective materials shimmered beautifully, revealing a different side of the artworks and allowing us to enjoy the various expressions of our creations from every angle.
About Iroenpitsu Summer School
Iroenpitsu (Colored Pencils) is an organization dedicated to cherishing the individuality of every person. Their Summer School is a vibrant annual event where children with and without disabilities come together to play and explore their creativity alongside local artists. It has become a beloved tradition, with many families returning year after year to enjoy this free-spirited environment.
ワークショップの導入として、素材の葛（くず）について知ってもらうため、小さなお子さんに分かりやすいよう葛についての短いアニメーション投影と会話劇を発表しました。その後は「ほしくず」というテーマでキラキラした素材と葛のツルをあわせたモビールをつくるワークショップを実施しました。
お昼休憩をはさんだあと、DJ の音楽に合わせてほしくずディスコと題して皆で踊り、最後は床に寝そべって葛モビールを見上げてクールダウン。キラキラと反射する素材が照明に照らされ、制作時とは違う作品の表情を様々な角度から楽しみました。
色えんぴつサマースクールについて
「一人ひとりの個性を大切にする会・色えんぴつ」のサマースクールサマースクールは健常の子も障がいのある子も一緒になって地元のアーティスト達とクリエイティブに伸び伸びと遊ぶイベントです。毎年、家族で参加される方もいらっしゃいます。
